Peruvian born tenor, Percy Martinez, starts the year 2006 by singing two role debuts, Des Grieux in Puccini's Manon Lescaut with West Bay Opera, and Macduff in Macbeth with North Bay Opera. In April, he will participate in Opera in the Heights’ celebratrion of their 10th Anniversary with their Season Finale, where he will interpret three different characters each night: The Duke of Mantua in Act III of Rigoletto, Mario Cavaradossi in Act III of Tosca, and Radames in Act III of Aida. In 2005, Mr. Martinez spent the winter as an Apprentice Singer with The Sarasota Opera, making his house debut singing the role of Federico in Verdi’s Stiffelio; in May, he made his San Francisco Lyric Opera debut as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly; and in the summer, Mr. Martinez was an Apprentice Singer with The Santa Fe Opera. Mr. Martinez also added the role of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in two performances with Center Stage Opera this past fall.
He has appeared with numerous organizations in Southern California, most recently appearing as Rodolfo in a concert performance of Puccini’s La Boheme with OperaWorks. In the San Francisco area, Percy has appeared with San Francisco Lyric Opera, San Francisco Opera a la Carte, Bayshore Lyric Opera, Berkeley Opera and Lyric Theatre of San Jose. He made his European debut in 2003 as Fracasso in a concert version of Mozart’s La Finta Semplice, in Florence, Italy.
